Where am I?

I am based in Argelès-Gazost, a small spa and market town at the foot of the central part of the French Pyrenees.

This is the perfect area for your mountain experience. Within a short distance, there are mountains of all shapes and sizes, allowing me to plan routes and trips for all kinds of groups and abilities. From high jagged granite peaks to green rolling hills with limestone terraces, there is something for everyone in our valley! And with amazing woodland and beautiful mountain lakes we can always find alternative routes whatever the weather (almost!).

  • July, August and September are the summer months: generally hot weather and some afternoon storms, the best time of year to attempt higher peaks or go on longer hut-to-hut expeditions.
  • October and November are often the best months: the forests take on all shades of gold, yellow and orange, the first snows arriving on the 3000m peaks, and the temperatures in the valleys are still very agreeable, usually around 20 degrees.
  • December, January, February and March are great for snowshoeing, but there is often the opportunity to do lower level walks too.
  • April, May and June is spring and this is also a fantastic time to come: the temperatures are generally very warm, all the flowers are in bloom and the higher peaks are still covered in snow.

Argelès is just 15mins from the world famous tourist site of Lourdes (with international airport) and is serviced by a dual-carriageway, making the valley easily accessible. If you need any help organising your transport or accommodation then contact me and I will be happy to help!

From Argelès, it is easy to organise routes and treks in the areas of Gavarnie (highest waterfall in Europe) and Val d'Azun, as well as in the Basque Country and in Aragón, in Spain. The well-known peaks of Mont Perdu, Balaitus, Vignemale, Midi de Bigorre and Midi d'Ossau are all close by, as well as lesser known gems such as Pic de Viscos, Midi de Arrens, Pic de Leviste and others.

Nevertheless, I am not limited to this area!! I am also happy to organise and lead treks in other mountain ranges anywhere in the world, but notably in Picos de Europa and the Cantabrian Mountains in Spain, the French Massif Central, Nepal and the Himalayas, or anywhere on the Way of Saint James leading to Santiago de Compostela in the north-west of Spain. Contact me if this interests you.
